Dueling Statistics

From the right: over 40% of Americans pay no income tax.
From the left: the bottom 40% of Americans earn less than 15% of the total income in the US.
From the maths: comparing % earned to % tax paid is actually hard to do because of a dearth of data, but estimates based on government reports show that the tax rate is slightly progressive, with <10% differences in % income earned vs. % income tax paid for each 20 percentile bracket.

One of these is not a good talking point.
