  • "Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the kingdom of idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts."
  • "I have gotten in the habit of recording important meetings. One never knows when an inconvenient truth will fall between the cracks and vanish."
  • "They are the key to my eventual rise to the throne! Why would I abandon them?" "Because I have asked you, and because your loyalty to our people should be greater than your ambition, and because I have poisoned your drink."
  • "What matters is everything up to that point, leaving behind the old, preparing to be reborn." "I've already been born once, and quite sufficiently I think."
  • "... you cling to the memory of your sacrifices, of all you have lost or left behind. They drag behind you like chains of your own making. They can have a terrible power over you Marcus, the power of grief, loss, and regret."
  • "I see they trained you well back home." "Yeah, well they said I was carrying around a lot of repressed anger." "And?" "I'm not repressed anymore."
  • "It's like I've always said, you can get more with a kind word and a two-by-four than you can with just a kind word."
  • "Always bet on stupidity."

From Babylon 5 "Sic Transit Vir" written by J. Michael Straczynski
  • "He said that you were capable of a quite enchanting, and well deserved, humility."
  • "I've often thought that when we are born we are given time in a multitude of tiny boxes so small that when we need them most they are nowhere to be found."
  • "Do you think I'm pretty?" "Oh, yes, deliriously, but I always associated delirium with fever, so there you are."
  • "If kisses could kill, that one would have flattened several small towns."
  • "You're not making any sense." "I imagine I'm not, but that's the kind of day I've been having."
  • "All I can say is that enthusiasm, sincerity, genuine compassion, and humor can carry you through any lack of prior experience with... high numerical value."
  • "Well, that covers effect, but I'm reasonably sure I'm no nearer cause than I was when I sat down."

  • "I'm going to kill him. After breakfast. If I can find him."
  • "I've taken the opportunity provided by my incarceration to meditate, to think, sometimes I even sing." "I know, we got a petition." "For or against?" "Based on the sound, they think we're torturing you in here." <Hearty laughter>
  • "You know, a true artist is never appreciated in his own time." "Or his own cell block?"
  • "You can learn much from silence."
  • "The decision is mine and mine alone. And it's made."
  • "Don't worry, I will watch and catch you if you fall."
  • "In Valen's name, it's awake!'
  • "If we can't out fight it, let's hope we can out think it."
  • "If I were holding anything back I would tell you."
  • "And to confirm earlier reports, President Clark has signed a decree today declaring martial law throughout Earth central, citing threats to planetary security."
From Babylon 5 "Point of No Return" written by J. Michael Straczynski
  • "I thought the purpose of filing these reports was to provide accurate intelligence." "Vir, intelligence has nothing to do with politics."
  • "Greatness is never appreciated in youth, called pride in midlife, dismissed in old age, and reconsidered in death."
  • "There is always choice. We say there is no choice only to comfort ourselves with a decision we have already made. If you understand that, there's hope. If not..."
  • "This isn't a game! You better get your priorities straight, and you better do it fast, because Hell's coming five steps behind me, and you don't want to be on the wrong side when it gets here."

  • "Always plant a lie inside a truth, it makes it easier to swallow."
  • "The future reveals itself only reluctantly, Ambassador. Take the sign for what it is, look for it when it appears."
  • "I have time, all the time in the world. Do you?"
From Babylon 5 "Severed Dreams" written by J. Michael Straczynski
  • "Because as much as our humanity got us into this, our humanity is the only thing that's going to get us out of it."
  • "The Grey Council has said, 'the problems of others are not our concern.'"
  • "Never start a fight, but always finish it."
  • "This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection, withdraw or be destroyed." "Negative, we have authority here. Do not force us to engage your ship." "Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives be somewhere else."
  • "Listen, I've been trying to think of some way to tell you how much what you did means to me and, uh, well, thank you seems poor and inadequate."
I seem never to be able to watch these three separately anymore. Though there are a couple of individual episodes I enjoy more, this trio together remains my favorite part of the show.

The Babylon Quotes Project

From Babylon 5 "Exogenesis" written by J. Michael Straczynski
  • "Because no matter what you do everything comes down to one of two things, biology or math."
  • "I was thinking, flowers." "Thinking flowers is good. Giving flowers is better."
  • "Roses never offend a woman, except by their absence."
  • "Where I come from one man from three leaves two." "Where I come from is a far more interesting place."
  • "If you go, I'll miss you, and I hate that feeling."

Bookworming: Possession

Possession, Kat Richardson, **
The latest in the Greywalker series strays more toward thriller territory than the more mystery-esque tales from early in the series. Without giving too much away, the secondary (and often superfluous) plot thread from recent books is coming more to the fore. Unfortunately, I did not find it very thrilling. Harper's clue trail this time around felt more like reacting to external forces, and aside from some initial insights into what was going on, the rest struck me as moving the pieces around until the final reveal could be made. Richardson's writing is as readable as ever, and by no means is this a bad book, but nothing really stands out for me to recommend about it either.
